Denim Shirt (at least) 4 Ways
I started this over on my Instagram account about a month ago. I had a client ask me how I would style a denim shirt. I furiously texted her a windfall of options which was probably a bit overwhelming. I got excited, I admit. It's just one of those closet staples that can provide endless use and options.
Tucked into a skirt
This is probably my favorite option. It gives the masculine structure of a button-down some added femininity (a.k.a. it makes it girly). Stylist Tip: (This is pretty key) Make sure you have your skirts altered so they fit at the smallest part of your waist. It will feel oddly high at first, but you gotta trust me on this one. It is extremely flattering. People will notice the smallest part of your waist which is a very good thing (and, yes, you do have one).
Under a blazer
If you work in a more casual office environment then this would be appropriate. I love it with these. Or for a more casual take, pair it with black jeans or some drapey pants or joggers.
Layered under a long cardigan
Mix up the length by layered a long cardigan over the shirt. White after Labor Day? Umm, yes. A patterned cardigan or long vest would also look great here, too.
Over a dress
Denim and stripes. It doesn't come more classic than that. I like trying the option of tying the shirt in a knot at the bottom. You won't risk looking shlumpy dumpy. Again, this will help define your waist which is really flattering.
Wear it underneath a sleeveless dress to transition your summer shifts from summer to fall
Use it as a swimsuit coverup
Underneath an olive green military or field jacket with dark denim or navy pants
Roll the sleeves up and tuck into any of your favorite pairs of shorts
